OHIP

The Ontario Health Insurance plan will cover a routine comprehensive eye examination on an annual basis for the following groups:

  • Children (0 – 19 years old)
Children are covered every 12 months for a comprehensive eye examination and periodically for minor assessments related to a medical condition such as ocular infections or binocular vision assessments.

  • Seniors (65 years and older)
Seniors are covered every 12 months for a comprehensive eye examination and periodically for minor assessments related to a medical condition such as cataracts, macular degenerations, or ocular infections.

  • Adults (20 -64 years old)
Patients in this age group are generally not covered by OHIP unless a medical condition exists such as diabetes, glaucoma, cataracts, retinal disease, amblyopia, visual field defects, strabismus, or a corneal disease exists. In such cases, individuals are eligible for a comprehensive eye examination every 12 months.
